Around fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Law enforcement report they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The substance had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then found many other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police report early analysis indicate the liquid was likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; authorities are not yet informed of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to unravel the case" and have asked to the community for information.
A high-ranking representative commented the incident left him stunned and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he posted on social media, recalling the killing of nine victims by a gunman targeting individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
