Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Soldiers Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of personalities, and a gripping narrative including angels, demons, and dark forces growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure follow below.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The latest chapter concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the premier party of adventurers who will separate from the primary party to begin their own adventure, apart from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team features Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Given a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the personal journeys before dividing into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Schemers, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

Per the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for participants who are drawn to a classically intense battle-oriented gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might look out of place, but the actions of the latest installment show why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the party understands precisely where to proceed after a intense initial meeting with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise initiated the story’s plot—used the foes for his personal gain, entering the secret base, assaulting the rogue, and taking all the enchanted items to dispose of.

Casimir then cleared his debts and ran away to a fortified location in the northern region, beyond the urban center, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each adventurer has a specific drive to depart the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires retribution.
  • Kattigan knows Timmony and warns that it is a hostile environment.
  • The warrior and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their position as key figures in House Halovar could assist the party access locations they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, Teor vowed a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are sought by the rulers that rule Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • Thimble and The character are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and Wicander betrayed the influential house and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the family.

This results in them little choice but to journey toward the remote area in pursuit of Casimir.

What’s Next?

Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we learn that the combat party will not appear next week, leaving the rest of the cast members to form the Seekers and Schemers groups.

Fans can look forward to discovering which characters will be in which group in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on October 24.
